The program includes Dvořák’s radiant “American” Quartet, inspired by his time in the United States, and Smetana’s deeply personal quartet "From My Life". The concert highlights the American premiere of David Scott’s String Quartet No. 5, commissioned by NAVO’s Artistic Director Véronique Mathieu.

ABOUT THE EVENT
Join NAVO for an evocative evening of chamber music exploring memory, place, and musical heritage. The Frontier String Quartet performs Antonín Dvořák’s beloved String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96, “American”, written in 1893 during the composer’s summer in Spillville, Iowa, while he served as director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York. Inspired by the landscapes and musical traditions he encountered in the United States—including spirituals and Indigenous melodies—the quartet radiates warmth, vitality, and lyrical charm, capturing Dvořák’s fascination with the sounds and spirit of a new homeland.
The program also features Bedřich Smetana’s deeply personal String Quartet No. 1 in E minor, “From My Life”, composed in 1876 and premiered publicly on March 29, 1879. In a remarkable historical connection, Antonín Dvořák himself played viola at the premiere, reflecting both his close relationship with Smetana and his own lifelong passion for chamber music. The…

As is with the interior of the church, the parking is plentiful. It's available all around the building. No matter at what time you arrive at the church, you have no challenges finding a spot for your car.

Designed by Shaughnessy Fickel and Scott Architects, a modern language invigorated by light underlies the design of the interior space that unfolds as one enters and experiences it (Crosbie, 2003).
